This exciting tour will take you to discover enchanted and unimaginable places, forged by nature and by the ancient populations who made the resources of this land their power.

Salerno is a large and important city in the Campania region, located in a breathtaking landscape, the city of Salerno is located on the coast between the Amalfi coast and the Cilento coast and much of its incredible coastal territory is preserved by UNESCO. The city of Salerno, contiguous to the sea, called ’’Salum’’ and due to the river called ’’ Lirnum ’’, from the union of these two names was called Salernum. With its beautiful seafront, the city of Salerno offers the possibility of a pleasant relaxing walk, and among the narrow streets of the historic center that give the opportunity to spend some time experiencing the relaxing atmosphere of the city and, why not, shopping in its stores. Let’s start our tour to visit Salerno with a route that will introduce you first of all to the ancient Via dei Mercanti, which crosses the entire historic center, as well as taking you to discover the Cathedral of Salerno, the Santa Sofia Complex, the Minerva Gardens.

This tour will take you to visit Salerno so that you can admire the characteristics of a city that was once home to the first and most important medical school in all of Europe, capital of the homonymous Lombard principality during the Middle Ages and capital of Italy during the second. World War. Among the main attractions of Salerno, there is the Arechi Castle in first place. The view that will open up before you, once you reach the top of the castle, will leave you amazed and speechless. From the Arechi Castle, which overlooks the Gulf of Salerno, you can enjoy a breathtaking view that ranges from the tip of the Amalfi Coast to Agropoli. It still represents today an authentic example of Medieval architecture, still well preserved, and appreciated throughout Italy.

Returning to the city, our tour to discover Salerno will begin at the gates of the main Catholic place of worship, as well as the second most important attraction in Salerno. Salerno Cathedral . The Cathedral of Salerno was built between 1080 and 1085 after the conquest of the city by Roberto il Guiscardo. The feeling, entering the Cathedral of Salerno, is that of having been transported to an Arab country or even to Andalusia: the colonnade with columns from the ancient Roman Forum, the arches decorated with volcanic stone inlays, the loggia with mullioned windows. The feeling is that of being in a very rare place, especially in the South. It is no coincidence that this portico is considered the first example of Mediterranean architecture. Inside the cathedral you must absolutely see the crypt.

FUN FACT : the stump is kept inside the crypt, where, according to tradition, three martyrs were beheaded: Caio, Ante and Fortunato. Legend has it that by placing your ear on it, you can still hear the sound of flowing blood. Leaving the Duomo, you can head towards Piazza Alfano, where the famous Monumental Complex of Santa Sofia is housed. From the Santa Sofia Complex, you will continue walking along via Torquato Tasso until you reach the Giardino della Minerva, most likely the third most important thing to see in Salerno.

Before continuing our tour and immersing ourselves in new scenarios, in such a vast territory in which Mother Nature was so generous, the typical dishes could certainly not be missing, given the abundance and above all the quality of the raw material. After a busy day, we cannot fail to take the opportunity to taste excellent fish, especially the exquisite frying with a delicious lunch, in one of the typical restaurants of Salerno.

Recovered the energy, the most famous and characteristic street of the city is the Via dei Mercanti. This place is the heart of shopping, the main street to take a look at its many shops and, why not, indulge in some shopping. After tasting the delicacies of Salerno cuisine and browsing between one window and another, we can resume our tour. Continue for 60 km to discover Paestum and its wonders. Paestum

UNESCO World Heritage Site and the cradle of Greek and Roman civilization, it is another must. Here, in fact, you can stroll among the architectural wonders that have fascinated visitors for centuries.Near the city, at the mouth of the Sele, you can admire the remains of the Sanctuary of Era (Heraion), one of the most important Greek sanctuaries on Italic soil. But Paestum is also sea: in fact, in Capaccio Paestum there is a wonderful and very long white sand beach, where the only watchword is relaxation. And nearby, you will also find a dense pine forest where you can take refuge in the hottest hours.

The Archaeological Park of Paestum it is undoubtedly the main tourist attraction of the entire area. Every year it is visited by an ever increasing number of tourists who are completely immersed in the glories of Magna Graecia. The park preserves the remains of the ancient city, which can be considered among the best preserved that have come down to us. Certainly its magnificent Doric temples are a marvel for the eyes, not only for lovers of antiquity. The temple of Hera, the temple of Neptune, the temple of Athena, a walk through the ancient forum up to the amphitheater: these are just some of the structures that will keep your eyes glued to the splendor of an ancient era.

FUN FACT: it is also possible to block the walls that surround the archaeological site, in order to help safeguard and defend this immense asset.

For the sweet tooth, to end this fantastic tour to discover the flavors and colors that the province of Salerno offers its visitors, a stop in one of the many dairies in the area is a must. Where it is possible to witness the production process of the famous buffalo mozzarella from Campania D.O.P.

Customers say about us

We had Paolo for two days and were glad of it. My foot was injured so I was using an ace bandage and a cane. Paolo considered and planned the trip in a way that made it possible to enjoy it. He is personable and knows his home turf. I would use this service again!
Friends in Westchester, NY highly recommended Paolo to us and he did not disappoint :) We went somewhere different every day with Paulo (Mon-Thurs) including a very early morning ride to Naples airport Friday. Paolo is very warm and friendly, so knowledgeable and has great recommendations. He really puts his all into his clients and personalizes the experiences...that’s huge! Highlights include: Vesuvius, Amalfi Coast drive (of course), lunch in Ravello with an amazing view, shopping in Sorrento & Positano, and listening to Paolo talk about the history, the countryside and his family. Definitely ask for Paolo!!
I learnt about PierPaolo via a friend who had used his services a few years ago. So I needed a reliable, honest, and reasonable transportations in Amalfi areas for a week for our family including 4 kids ranging from 2-8 yo. PierPaolo, his dad and younger brother are exceptional. They are so reliable, honest, thorough, hard working, great communicating , super friendly, helpful, flexible, etc... They waited in their cars while we dined, they made reservations for us and even used his credit card, made stops for us taking pics, etc. They went beyond to make our travels much easier, especially with young kids and accommodated date our plans. On the top of their best services, PierPaolo didn't even charge extra when our family of 3 friends tagged along for excursion and ride to the airport which resulted they had to use bigger bus to accommodate our size along the way.

His services is one of our highlights of our Amalfi. I wished to live close to them so that we would become good friends, not that we weren't now.

Any way, I can't talk enough about how great they are and am humble for their best efforts and services for us.

Grazie mille!
I travelled to the region witb friends this month. We booked with the service on recommendation of other friends. We found it was a perfect option for convenience, stressfree travel to/from Amalfi coast. We found Paolo friendly, professional, informative and accommodating. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the region. danalorraine88
